Art Spiegelman is best known for Maus, a Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel about the Holocaust told through the metaphor of mice and cats. Maus has been banned or removed from school curricula for language and imagery, most notably by a Tennessee school board in 2022. Spiegelman has strongly criticized such decisions, calling them dangerous distortions of historical memory.
